From Veterans, To Veterans: William Rivera

From Veterans, To Veterans: William Rivera

As we conclude our Veterans Appreciation Month, we would like to highlight the vast accomplishments of William Rivera, Company 1st Sergeant and Senior Enlisted Personnel Administrator of the U.S. Marine Corps for 21 years.  His over two decades of military experience has made him an outstanding and resourceful member of our DVOP team.

When asked what his most rewarding moment of being a part of the DVOP team, Bill said that there were many, emphasizing how useful the program can be.  One day, a disabled veteran came to his office seeking work as a Master’s Degree Level counselor, specializing in children and adolescents.  She was graduating with 60 other graduates in a week and then going on to seek employment in this very narrow field – the Tampa Bay Area offers about 10 of these positions on an annual basis.  We got together, tweaked her resume and practiced “mock interviews” for about 3 days in a row. The results? She received the job offer and obtained it for 45K starting position.

Bill says this has confirmed the reason why he chose to get into this filed of work.  She got that job in just one week because of collaboration with Bill and his team in this truly challenging, extremely difficult job market.

Excitedly, Bill exclaimed that it was a “GREAT DAY!!”  Thank you, William, for your service to our country and our veterans, both in and out of the military.

From Veterans, To Veterans: Ronald Hasty

From Veterans, To Veterans: Ronald Hasty

CareerSource Pinellas proudly honors Ronald Hasty, Master Sergeant of the U.S. Air Force for 22 years.  His bravery and commitment to a lifetime of service are heroic and inspiring.  We are very proud of his achievements, both in the military and here at CareerSource Pinellas as a member of our DVOP team.

We would like to thank Ron for sharing the following story about the veteran he had helped that made him feel like his job truly makes a difference.

“As I was reviewing the veteran’s “Veteran Initial Intake” sheet with him, he told me that he is restricted from applying to many jobs because he doesn’t have a high school diploma.  I asked him if he would have gotten his diploma during his first enlistment had he stayed in school.  He told me yes.  I also asked him what state would have issued him his diploma. He told me Connecticut.  While he was sitting in front of me, I called the Connecticut Department of Educate and asked the person on the phone if their state gives high school diplomas to veterans who leave school to join the military.  She told me they do.  I collected the information from the veteran and told him where he needs to send it.  In the days that followed, he came by the office trying to talk to me.  The third time he met with me.  He was very excited and with tears in his eyes, he told me that they informed him, that if he could make it back to Connecticut, they would formally present him with his diploma.  He was very grateful that I helped him.  At that moment, I realized that we do make a difference.”

From Veterans, To All: Scott Furbay, Steven Walker & Antonio Marra

From Veterans, To All: Scott Furbay, Steven Walker & Antonio Marra

While CareerSource Pinellas is proud to honor our DVOP and LVER team members, we’d also like to recognize additional staff who have served honorably in the U.S. Army.

Today, we would like to recognize Scott Furbay, Steven Walker and Antonio Marra for their bravery, courage and dedication to this country.

Scott served the U.S. Army for 9 years as a Personnel Records Administrator and now is a Resource Specialist and Employment Security Representative for CareerSource.  Scott believes that his 7 years spent at CSPIN combined with his military experience has enabled him to better service our clients with true compassion and understanding. It is his sincere hope to help as many people as possible, including our veterans, as he himself has benefitted greatly from the services and resources that CSPIN provides.

Steven also served the U.S. Army for 9 years but as an E4 Specialist. His service in Hanua, Germany during the Persian Gulf War with the 130th Engineer Brigade has inspired him to want to help and work with veterans to better their lives. His inspiration at CSPIN stems from working in the South County center, helping community members use today’s technology and helping them land employment. Steven finds great joy and happiness when customers come back with a big smile and a huge thank you for all of his assistance and support.

Additionally, Antonio served in the U.S. Army as a Calvary Scout for 4 years.  He has spent 3 years at CareerSource as a Placement Specialist, transferring his hard work and dedication from the military to our customers.  Employers constantly recognize Antonio for his diligence and dedication to his job, ensuring that both employers and job seekers can be satisfied through CSPIN’s onsite recruitment events.

Scott, Steven, and Antonio, your commitment and passion for helping others inspires us all to work harder every day.  Thank you for your service to our country, our company and our customers. We will never forget the sacrifices you’ve made to help those around you.

From Veterans, To Veterans: Ty Anderson

From Veterans, To Veterans: Ty Anderson

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Today, CareerSource Pinellas is thankful for all country’s veterans, especially those who have joined our DVOP team.  Today, we would like to honor Ty Anderson.  Ty has served 20 years in the U.S. material as an Aviation Maintenance Administration Chief.  His commitment for this country is unwavering, and we are extremely gracious.

We are also very thankful for his commitment to this company.  Ty has been with CareerSource for over 17 years and is a key member of our DVOP team. As someone who has dedicated his life to service, we couldn’t be more proud.  Ty has successfully been helping veterans for years.  One time, he saw a veteran that just got out of prison after 8 years for a sexual offense. He was in a halfway house, so Ty had made a couple of phone calls and got him an interview. Ultimately, the veteran got hired at a local company building spas within as little as 2 days.  This placement couldn’t have happened without Ty.

Thank you for all that you do, Ty.

From Veterans, To Veterans: Luke Lafko

From Veterans, To Veterans: Luke Lafko

CareerSource Pinellas would like to honor Luke Lafko for his 4 years of service as an Infantry Squad Leader in the U.S. Marine Corps. We thank him for his bravery and dedication to this nation. His leadership while serving our country has certainly translated to leadership here at CareerSource Pinellas as he is an integral member of our DVOP team.

When asked what his most rewarding experience of working with veterans during his 2 years at this company, he said he that his ability to help service “the employment needs and goals of those within the veteran community who are either educationally and/or economically challenged” is inherently rewarding.

“I take great pride in the employment services this program offers and the amount of resources it provides to those within the veteran community. I am always willing and eager to assist any veteran in whatever their employment goals may be.”

Thank you, Luke, for everything you do for our veterans. Your passion to better the world inspires us all.

From Veterans, To Veterans: C.J. Wilson

From Veterans, To Veterans: C.J. Wilson

CareerSource Pinellas would like to graciously recognize C.J. Wilson for his 10 years as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps. We understand that more than courage is needed for one to risk his life for his country: his commitment, caring and personal strength have ascended him to the highest honor.

Currently, C.J. has been with CareerSource for 4 and a half years as one of our brightest LVERs.  Each time he works with an employer who has advised him that they had hired a veteran that was assisted through the CSPIN Veteran Service Department, C.J. considers this the most rewarding experience.

“It’s the small victories that matter the most because that is the beginning to winning the bigger victory for the veteran. It only reconfirms the importance in the work that we do as a Veteran Staff in assisting the veteran population in Pinellas County.”

Because of dedicated individuals like C.J. and our Veteran Services Team, our local veterans can truly be victorious.  Thank you, C.J., for your service to our country, this organization and our community veterans.

From Veterans, To Veterans: Mary Collins & Joshua Kuan

From Veterans, To Veterans: Mary Collins & Joshua Kuan

CareerSource Pinellas proudly recognizes the honorable service of Mary Collins and Joshua Kaun.  Mary served 4 years in the U.S. Army as a 75 Delta Personnel Record Specialist.  Her bravery and sacrifice have given us all the freedoms that we take for granted daily.  Thank you, Mary.

Her service did not end with the military.  Mary has been with CareerSource for 20 years and is a proud member of our DVOP team.  Her 2 decades of experience and wisdom have enabled her to effectively help veterans in the Tampa Bay Area better their lives after their time in the service.

Joshua shares Mary’s passion to help others.  He has served 10 years with the U.S. Navy as Petty Officer Second Class.  We are truly grateful for your service and thank you for the sacrifices you have made to keep us free and safe.

After his time in the service, Joshua joined CareerSource Pinellas as a Local Veterans Employment Representative (LVER).  In the one year he has been with the company, he has found a way to truly exemplify the Veterans Services Team through his hard work and determination.

Over the past few weeks, Mary has been assisting a veteran that has been unemployed for the past few years due to having a traumatic brain injury. She had passed his resume off to  Joshua,  and he went over to speak with the hiring manager at Dick’s Sporting Goods.  After discussing the services that CareerSource has to offer, the manager took the veteran’s resume and let Joshua know they would be hiring for the holiday season.  The veteran was called in for an interview and was offered a position as a Sales Associate.  This collaboration of effort between both DVOP and LVER deems the program successful.

Thank you both for your collaborative and tireless efforts to assist our local veterans in bettering their lives.

From Veterans, To Veterans: Dan Wright

From Veterans, To Veterans: Dan Wright

CareerSource Pinellas would like to formally thank Dan Wright
for his 4 years of service as a Communication Center Supervisor in the U.S. Marines Corps.  For your valor, great efforts and sacrifices to our country, we salute you.

Today, Dan is a member of our DVOP team and has been helping veterans attain our services for nearly 5 and a half years.  His passion to help others goes beyond his time in the military.  Recently, a veteran that graduated from the Robotics and Mechatronics program was hired at $25/hour.  The program boosted his confidence in himself and gave him recent certifications, making him more employable.  Dan says that “it feels good to be involved with a process that betters veterans’ chances of being hired and improves their quality of life.”  Thank you, Dan, for being so instrumental to this process.  CareerSource and our local veterans would not be the same without your hard work.

From Veterans, To Veterans: John Sanaxay

From Veterans, To Veterans: John Sanaxay

CareerSource Pinellas would like to recognize John Sanaxay for his 4 years of service as Petty Officer 3rd Class Boatswain Mate in the U.S. Navy.  We thank you for your selflessness and dedication to this country. Now, John has been a part of our Disabled Veterans Outreach Program (DVOP) team for 4 years and works effortlessly to connect veterans with our services.

One day, he was working with this veteran who was struggling with drug addiction. Because of the drug program he was in, he wasn’t allowed to own or operate a vehicle.  Seeing how this really inhibited him from getting around and applying for jobs, John reached out to the local police department which was able to donate a bike for this veteran to use.  The veteran was so thankful for the bike and was able to find a job on his own without relying on public transportation.  Seeing this man achieve something on his own reminded John of why he chose this job in the first place.

Thank you, John, for everything you do for this company.  Your passion to better your fellow veterans inspires us all.
